How to Calculate Year Over Year Growth

Formula used:

YoY Growth (%) = ((Current Year Value - Previous Year Value) ÷ Previous Year Value) × 100

Example 1:

Find the YoY growth for:

  • Previous Year = $12,000
  • Current Year = $17,000

Apply the values in the formula:

= ((17,000 - 12,000) ÷ 12,000) × 100

= (5,000 ÷ 12,000) × 100

= 0.41667 × 100

= 41.67%

Example 2:

Find the YoY growth for:

  • Previous Year = $150,000
  • Current Year = $230,000

= ((230,000 - 150,000) ÷ 150,000) × 100

= (80,000 ÷ 150,000) × 100

= 0.5333 × 100

= 53.33%
